Season Six of semi-improvised comedy seriesThe Leaguepremieres tonight on FXX. The fantasy football ensemble of miscreants will no doubt continue to be as rauchy as primetime cable will allow as they embark on yet another quest for the Shiva.
If this is your first draft season, The League follows six friends who will do everything in their power to sabotage each other in their annual quest for the Shiva, the league championship trophy named after their hot high school valedictorian. If contact sports aren't really your thing, not to worry — you only need a sense of humor while watching this show. From the brilliant, absurdist minds of husband and wife creators Jackie and Jeff Schaffer, here's a compilation of the weirdest, most outlandish episodes that each deserve separate Shiva trophies of their own.
1
Season 1, Episode 4: "Mr. McGibblets"
Hands down, it's the most bizarre, creepiest episode the series has ever offered. This episode is number one on the scale of bizarro because it could have very easily gotten the series canceled, but instead it set the tone for the future of the raunch-com thrill ride. Kevin and Jenny's (Stephen Rannazzisi, Katie Aselton) wacky daughter, Ellie, has an obsession with cartoon character, Mr. McGibblets (which sounds like "Jibblets"), a creepy purple dinosaur-type animal who scares the bejesus out of Kevin. When he can't take it anymore, Kevin hires his stoner brother, Taco (Jonathan Lajoie), to dress up as the character and scare Ellie so she won't like him anymore. Of course, this plan to terrify an innocent child goes horribly awry.
MVP Moment: When Ellie LOVES life-sized Mr. McGibblets. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
2
Season 2, Episode 3: "The White Knuckler"
Dr. Andre Nowzick (Paul Scheer) is trying to seal a partnership deal to expand his practice. He feels he's being progressive because his potential new partner is black. Meanwhile, Pete (Mark Duplass) starts dating Kevin's ex, Brooke (Lake Bell), who is collectively known in the group as "The White Knuckler" because she apparently squeezes too hard when she gives hand jobs. Ruxin (Nick Kroll) uses a terminally ill child to try and meet his favorite football player (Joshua Cribbs) through the Make-A-Wish Foundation, and Andre's fancy "Whites Only" party fails miserably when his potential partner takes the party attire choice the wrong way.
MVP Moment: When Taco's "naginata" sword routine nearly castrates Kevin and Brooke has to come to the rescue with her penis death grip. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
3
Season 3, Episode 1: "The Lockout"
Seth Rogen guest stars as porn director "Dirty Randy," a friend of Ruxin's brother-in-law, Rafi (Jason Mantzoukas). As Andre's one final punishment as winner of the disgraced Sacko Bowl, the league decides without his knowing to hire a porn crew to film a movie in his high-end apartment. After Andre is sent away, the league fights over who gets to pick first in the draft. The argument is taken outside and before they know it they're locked out of Andre's apartment while filming is in progress, thus sending the teams into autodraft, which is season suicide.
MVP Moment: When Dirty Randy dubs the Andre-inspired porn character, Dr. Nosedick. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
4
Season 1, Episode 6: "The Shiva Bowl"
The guys recently found out that Andre has been dating the Shiva (Janina Gavankar), the gang's gorgeous high school valedictorian who now specializes in urology and genital reconstruction. Shiva is curious what the guys have been up to all these years and presses Andre about getting together, but Andre is terrified of her finding out about her worship within the group.
MVP Moment: It's a tie between when Kevin can't contained his Shiva Blast while in her apartment and they all sing the Shiva song at the end. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
5
Season 5, Episode 4: "Rafi and Dirty Randy"
Written by Seth Rogen and Jason Mantzoukas, Rafi and Randy return and embark on a road trip to L.A. to avenge their friend Spaz's death. After they steal Kevin's car and drive out, they find themselves in a pickle with the police. Definitely don't watch this one at work.
MVP Moment: There are too many to choose here. Dirty Randy might be Seth Rogen's greatest character of his career. He's completely over the top in this episode and it's amazing. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
6
Season 4, Episode 3: "The Freeze Out"
While Pete plans an epic paintball fight, Ruxin takes Kevin to Spuki Sushi for the first time and gets in a racist tiff with a white sushi chef (Timothy Olyphant). After discovering that Jenny has had sex more times in a day with a former boyfriend than with Kevin, they try to beat their record at a child's birthday party.
MVP Moment: When Ruxin realizes that he wasn't poisoned by the disgruntled sushi chef, but in fact, has appendicitis. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
7
Season 2, Episode 10: "High School Reunion"
AKA: The Vinegar Strokes episode. The crew heads back to high school for their 20-year reunion where Andre is desperate to show off how successful he is, and Ruxin is pumped to show off his hot wife. Taco clues the guys in on a Vinegar Stroke, which is, according to Taco, the special face one makes during orgasm that allows you to peer into a man's soul.
MVP Moment: When Taco accidentally sees into Ruxin's soul. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
8
Season 3, Episode 6: "Yobogoya"
Taco tries to win a jingle contest through Yobogoya, a fast food chain famous for selling two-dollar buckets of beef. Ray Liotta guest stars as Ruxin's terrifying boss, who only refers to Ruxin as "Skippy" as they plan to take down Yobogoya for giving people food poisoning.
MVP Moment: When Kevin eats Yobogoya and has to take care of, er, things on the side of the highway. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
9
Season 2, Episode 6: "The Anniversary Party"
Ruxin plans his wife Sofia an anniversary party. Only problem is it falls on the same day at Jenny's birthday. Pete's ex, Meegan, shows up to the party with her new beau, Ted, who's actually a really old beau — almost thirty years her senior. Pete is convinced Ted is too old for Meegan, who desperately tries to prove Pete wrong.
MVP Moment: When Taco shows a shocking behind-the-scenes video from Ruxin's and Sofia's wedding. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
10
Season 3, Episode 7: "Carmenjello"
Andre makes a racist assumption about black janitor, Steve (Keegan Key), and tries to right his wrongs by treating him to a massage. Meanwhile, Kevin and Jenny are searching for the perfect paint color and decide on "cinnamon," eerily similar to Steve's skin color.
MVP Moment: When the cheap paint that Kevin and Jenny bought exploded and created quite the silhouette on the wall behind them. [Watch on Netflix and Amazon Prime]
